Are you ready to meet someone, but not feeling like online dating? Well, it’s time to put on those big girl pants and get out there!
If you’re not a natural vixen, the idea of walking sultrily into a crowd and luring over tall, dark and handsome with a wink may seem like Mission Impossible.
It’s easy to stall as you ask yourself hundreds of questions: Where should you go? What should you wear? What should you say? Should you be the hunter, or play hard to get? Is it best to go out alone, or do you need a wing woman?
But wait, it’s not that hard!
As someone who attends A LOT of networking events, I’ve discovered a few tricks that make meeting men and piquing their interest an almost no-brainer. Contrary to what you may think, it doesn’t require major tweaking of your personality or physique – All it takes is following a few simple suggestions. So, get ready, get set, and go get ’em ladies!
1. Go Where The Fish Are
Ask yourself what your target guy is like. Is he an international professional? If so, do your homework and find some professional (ish) networking events. Even if your purpose is far from work related, try one of these events, and you will be surrounded by potential “candidates” in a non-threatening environment. The fact that your interest in them could be professional, or personal, takes the pressure off the situation and tends to lend itself to men (and women) handing out their personal information a lot faster via the form of business cards.
2. Go Alone & Go Big
Sure, it’s easier to invite a girlfriend and spend the evening with a glass of wine in the corner “surveying” the crowd. However, you will meet more quality guys alone. It makes you more approachable, you are the one to decide who you want to talk to, and you make the crucial call of when to call it a night. When you arrive, look for a group of men containing at least one man you find attractive. Approach the group and smile, and then make a comment about the “venue” or what they are drinking or eating.
After you have broken the ice, chat with them for 20 minutes tops. Give them all equal attention. It is important to not monopolize the attention of the one particular guy you find attractive. After 20 minutes find a clever reason to give them all your card and leave. “What if the conversation is lovely?” you might ask. Still leave; it will pique their interest if you don’t over stay your welcome. Just make sure to quickly note something on the business card of the guy that grabbed your attention.
3. Smile
Yes, the communication books are right: A smile is your best friend. If you feel uncomfortable smiling, practice in private! There’s nothing better than giving yourself a sexy smile before starting the day. You can also, practice in your day-to-day activities by smiling at random, non-threatening people. Choose someone you might find interesting, lock eyes with them and flash them your pearly whites.
4. Eye Contact
Locking eyes is another integral ingredient for connecting with men. Eyes are the doors to your soul, so if you don’t look at someone, your door is shut. Make it a point to look people in the eyes – at the mall, the beach, and when you’re waiting in line for the metro.
5. Wear Something Feminine
Dress like a woman with confidence. Wear something that suits you, flatters you and shows that you are proud of who you are. I almost always wear a dress and heels because it instantly puts me in the mood to mingle!
Let Momentum Grow
Following these five guidelines is guaranteed to put a little more spring in your step. Even better? You’ll be amazed at how many more quality men you meet! Sure, getting out there is hard, but every step you take is a step in the right direction. As you start experiencing more success, keep the momentum going in the right direction, and give yourself a little pat on the back. Happy mingling!
