What are the top goals you want in your relationship?
Many people have different opinions about what the goals or rules of a relationship should be.
But, when looking for a relationship, you want to find someone who sees how amazing you are and adds value to the life you already have. You want to find someone who helps you be a better version of yourself.
So what exactly does the phrase ‘relationship goals’ actually mean?
Relationship goals refer to an admirable relationship between two people who are deeply in love. The phrase is often used to describe a romantic couple that you want to someday achieve in your own life.
Whether you’re in a romantic relationship, have children, divorced, or still looking for that special person who will change your life forever, the relationship goals below will help any relationship flourish.
1. Communicate & Listen
Communication is vital to a happy relationship. One of the most important parts of a relationship is being able to comfortably communicate with your partner and be able to genuinely listen to your partner.
It’s important for couples to be able to communicate and understand each other at any time without judgment, fear of misunderstanding, or hurting each other’s feelings.
Your partner cannot understand your feelings or expectations if you never express what they are. In other words, if you don’t speak up, you’ll never be heard.
Listening is often overlooked. However, listening and actually trying to understand your partner’s perspective and feelings is one of the best ways to show that you respect and really care about their feelings.
2. Date Night
I know date night may sound a little cheesy, but it’s critical to maintaining a happy and healthy relationship. Date night gives you the chance to spice up your relationship and give your partner a night that makes them feel special.
Date night doesn’t mean you have to do anything extravagant or go out to an expensive dinner. But, you should take the time and dedicate a night to the one you love. Put away the screens or any other distractions and spend some quality time together.
It can be really easy to grow apart without being aware of it. So, dedicating one night a week to nurture your relationship and have open communication can be the key to having that long successful relationship you’ve been dreaming of.
3. Support Each Others Goals
Any relationship will struggle if you have drastically different values from your partner. Finding a partner who has a similar view on life and values is critical to a happy relationship.
Supportive partners will always want what’s best for you and will never hold you back from achieving your dreams.
Find someone who wants to see you succeed and will help and encourage you to work towards your goals.
You should never feel like you have to change yourself or make huge sacrifices just so your partner is happy and make your relationship last.
4. Learn Your Love Languages
Understanding how your partner feels loved and the ways you feel loved is so important for any relationship. In most relationships, partners do not have the same love language and assume their partner speaks the same love language as them.
For example, some people feel most loved when their partner buys them gifts, while that means absolutely nothing to another person. Some feel most loved by spending quality time with their partner and having their undivided attention.
People identify with these love languages because it helps identify what your personal and emotional needs are in a relationship and also puts some sense around why partners misinterpret one another’s intentions.
Here Are The 5 Love Languages:
- Words of Affirmation – This language uses words to affirm other people.
- Acts of Service – For these people, action speaks louder than words.
- Receiving Gifts – For some people, what makes them feel most loved is to receive a gift.
- Quality Time – This language is all about giving the other person your undivided attention.
- Physical Touch – To this person, nothing speaks more deeply than appropriate touch.
Knowing what your love languages are will help you receive the type of love you need and also give your partner the type of love that is important to them.
5. Be You & Have Fun
Many couples forget to have fun together as their relationship progresses. Don’t lose your sense of humor and never be afraid to be 100% you.
“Laughter is the best medicine.”
One of my favorite sayings is, “laughter is the best medicine,” and sometimes people forget how important it really is in any relationship.
Also, don’t be afraid to stand up for what you believe in and find a partner who cares about the things that you care about. You shouldn’t have to change who you are for anyone.
6. Be Independent
Independence is one of the most underrated traits in a relationship. The best relationships occur when two independent people decide to build a relationship and share their lives together.
Be able to form a bond that allows you to grow together, but also independently as people.
Its not fair to rely on your partner for all of your wants and needs.
When both people love themselves, understand their values, passions, and emotions, that’s when the best long-lasting relationships happen.
The question is, how can you love and support your partner if you don’t love who you are or understand what makes you happy?
7. Do Things For Each Other
One of the most important factors in a healthy relationship is to create an atmosphere of admiration and appreciation.
Try to remember what you love about each other and keep your focus on the positives in your relationship instead of the negatives.
Don’t take each other for granted. Take the time to actively do things for each other. Make your partner feel special!
8. Fight Fair
If you want the best relationship you should learn how to handle conflict. The goal is to have the ability to solve problems and work together as a team to solve any problems you may have to face.
We all know every couple will fight at some point, but the important thing to remember is only we are responsible for how we react not anyone else.
The couples who are the happiest already know how to respect, communicate, and listen to their partner. If you already do this, your relationship should be able to handle almost anything.
9. Be Kind
Being kind is one of the most simplest but effective goals for any relationship.
When we feel hurt, angry, or frustrated, it’s so easy to lash out and say hurtful things. Sometimes we employ passive-aggressive words and behaviors or manipulation to express how we feel instead of taking a second to breathe to help gather ourselves so we avoid saying/doing anything hurtful.
The way you or your partner responds to little things and inconveniences is telling you how they will react to larger problems in the future.
Make it a goal in your relationship to be kind in all of your actions and communication.
If you have a moment where you are not kind, make it a goal to apologize quickly and show that you are sorry for hurting their feeling.
We are all human, so this one definitely takes some time to practice.
10. Emotional Safety
Emotional support is so important for any relationship.
You want your partner to be able to share any feelings or opinions with you freely and without judgment.
When you figure out how to share your feelings the right way, your partner will see the real you and want to understand your feelings.
Men seem tough, but every man has emotions and if they can share how they feel with you then your relationship is bound to succeed.
